Experience

Experience (abbreviated EXP) is the value that determines the growth of a character. Base Experience refers to the overall growth of the character. Job Experience refers to the growth of the character's job class. Companions can also be leveled up via base experience as well. Experience can be gained from killing monsters or completing quests. When a character has reached a certain EXP point threshold, he will level up. Leveling up gives extra stat points or skill points.

Level Differences

Characters will receive EXP penalty when fighting monsters four level lower than the character's level. This is governed by the formula:

Penalty = 1 - ((Character Lv - Monster Lv - 4) * 0.05)

Players receive no penalty for killing monsters up to four levels lower. The penalty applies when players are killing monsters 5 levels and below. Players receive essentially no experience when character level is 24 levels above monster level. See chart below.
